Top Tips for Getting Your 2024 Submissions Ready

As we begin the New Year, it means that you now only have a few months to start preparing your picture-perfect entries for this year’s MPAs!

To help you out, we’ve compiled a short blog piece that you can use as a guide to make sure your images hit the right notes with the judges.

1) Polish Your Portfolio:

Dive into your archives from 2023 and curate a collection that tells a compelling visual story. Select images that not only capture the energy of the moment but also reflect your unique perspective as a music photographer.

You can take a look through last year's categories here to see which ones align with your photography.

2) Composition & Style:

Assess the composition and style that define your photography. Whether you gravitate towards dramatic close-ups, panoramic crowd shots, or artistic angles, find a category that will celebrate your distinctive approach. Your signature style should be a guiding force in your decision.

3) Embrace the Moment:

Seek out those candid, fleeting moments that define a music moment in 2023. Showcase the raw emotion, the intensity of the artist or the connection between performers and the audience. These moments could be the heartbeat of your submission.

4) Resolution Matters:

Submit high-resolution images that truly do justice to your work. A sharp, clear image not only will impress the judges but also ensures your art is showcased in all its glory during the shortlisting and judging process.

5) Show Your Range:

If, for example, you are entering the Undiscovered Photographer of the Year category, demonstrate versatility by including a diverse range of images that showcase your ability to adapt to different musical genres and performance settings. This not only highlights your skill but also speaks to the breadth of your musical interests.

6) Tell Your Story:

Accompany each submission with a brief but compelling description. Share the inspiration behind your shots, the challenges you overcame and what makes each photograph a standout moment in your music photography journey.

Tell us about you – this is about the photographer behind the lens!

7) Triple-check the Guidelines:

Before hitting submit, carefully review the competition guidelines, ensuring they correspond with the correct category you are entering. Attention to detail here is crucial to avoid any hiccups in the judging process.

We may even be adding a new category for 2024 so keep focused!

We hope this helps and we can’t wait to see your submissions for 2024. The competition will be open in just a few months – snap to it!
