In September 2004 I was commissioned by Uncle Sally's Magazine to photograph De La Soul on the occasion of the release of their album "The Grind Date" . The shooting was to take place in a hotel in Berlin and as so often, the photo time was very limited. I made very simple cardboard signs with the words DE, LA and SOUL for the shooting. My idea was that the band hides behind the cardboard signs and possibly only the eyes or forehead look out. That's what we did, but the guys had so much fun with it and together we played more and more absurd scenes. We ended up with this picture of them holding the cardboard signs like toy guns and aiming at some point in the room.
