John specialises in capturing intimate images of musicians in the act of performance, with a particular focus on jazz and soul genres. In his work he aims to convey the emotion and passion of the performer and performance, be that in a live show or recording studio.
John won the Live Music Photography category in the inaugural Abbey Road MPAs in 2022 for his image of David Mrakpor at the 606 Club, entitled 'Waiting for the Head'.
He has created cover photographs for a number of albums and his work has been exhibited in a number of music and arts venues in London. In January 2025 he was awarded an Associateship by the Society of Photographers for a panel of 20 images reflecting his style, creativity and skills.
Through his experience shooting in jazz clubs and bars, John is particularly adept at photography in low light situations. He is also a skilled portrait photographer working both in studios and on location. He lives in North East England and works regularly in London.
